NEW YORK — The family of the rock band rocker Ronnie Bell has issued a statement saying they are deeply saddened by the death of the singer’s father, John Bell.
Bell died Wednesday after collapsing in a Los Angeles hotel room with his wife, Jillian.
Bell was 51.
Jillian Bell’s mother, Lisa Bell, said she was unaware of Bell’s condition.
“Ronnie was the best dad I have ever known.
He was a wonderful father,” Lisa Bell said in a statement.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by his passing.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and fans around the world.
Jillian Bell said her son was the “voice of the children and their parents” in his youth.
He was known for his guitar playing, his songwriting and his work as a musician and entertainer.
Bell’s family said he had been living in the Hollywood Hills since the 1980s.
Bell was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016.
In the statement, Bell’s parents, David and Julie Bell, wrote, “We ask that you honor the privacy of our son by keeping him in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
He had a huge heart.
The Bell family also said they are asking for privacy for Jillian and Ronnie in their time of grief.
“The Bells’ family said Ronnie had been working on a new album.
Jim Bell, a longtime family friend, told the Associated Press that Ronnie had recently moved into a new house and was taking classes.
A memorial service is planned for Monday in New York City.
